Back in 2008 to 2010, during my master’s research at Tama Art University, I focused on a question: Why do some designs last? My thesis was "Timeless Design in Printed Textiles."
I investigated the reasons some textile designs withstand the test of time. I researched the designers' history, background, and attitude to find out why some designs and products are loved and endure. I designed patterns and created printed textiles in the spirit of timeless design, drawing on insights from my research.
“IROCOH" is the brand name I created for my work on timeless design.
The name comes from “HOKORI” in Japanese, meaning “pride” and “dust”—reversed into “IROCOH.” It also includes “IRO,” which means “color.”
To me, a timeless textile is one that people use with pride until it turns to dust. That’s the spirit behind IROCOH—honest design, deep color, and lasting connection.
I don’t know yet if my designs will truly be timeless—but I create them with that hope.
